Sir,
The opressive regime of Slobodan Milosevic has commited a massive election fraud. Hundreds of thousands of people have been protesting on the streets of Belgrade for the tenth day now.
Your collegues, Serbian journalists have been ruthlessly silenced by the regime. Five independent radio stations have been forcefully closed and the transmissions of the last independent radio station - B92, have been jammed for the last three days. The last independent newspaper, Nasa Borba is under threat, too.
Yet, yesterday's and today's Times brings no news about these events. This shameful silence, interrupted only occasionally to satisfy the form, is in effect a support for Milosevic.
I cannot help noticing that the media in United States have responded faster and more responsibly to these events. They are adamant in their demands that Milosevic must not receive support from the West in any form. What are Serbian and other people supposed to learn from this? That the hope for the oppressed is in America. Europe is closer geographically, but unfortunately, Europe doesn't care.
Sincerely,
