June 27-29 (Thursday Evening - Sunday Morning)
With the blessing of Bishop Hilarion of Washington, our parish of St.
Nicholas is hosting the 2nd annual Southwest Orthodox Missions
Conference. It will again be in Dallas, as was the first one last
July, and we will follow the same general format, with much
expansion. This year's conference will be June 27-30, at the University
of Dallas. Check in and a limited schedule will be on Thursday
evening, with a full day planned for Friday and Saturday, and the
culmination of the conference after the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy
meal and panel discussion on Sunday. His Grace, Bishop Hilarion will
be present during the entire conference.
We plan to have a very full itinerary:
-
· Three divine liturgies, the last one being Hierarchal .
-
· Evening and morning services, (vespers, matins) with opportunity for many to
serve, sing and chant, and thereby learn the services by praying during them.
-
· With God's help, ordinations may occur.
-
· Music practicum - Learning to sing the Sticheric tones in SMALL
groups.
-
· Typicon practicum - learning to set up the books for the
services, and understanding their structure.
-
· Altar server and Readers practicum.
-
· Practicum and discussion on rubrics and serving for the clergy.
-
· Presentation and panel discussion about home school and church education .
- · Presentation about confession, by Archpriest Fr. Konstantin
Fedoroff, of Kursk Mother of God Hermitage
-
· Presentation about Orthodox charitable work in the inner city , by
Hieromonk Joachim, of Mercy House, a monastic house which served the
poorest of the poor on New York's lower East side.
-
· Panel discussion(s) with Bishop Hilarion and the clergy.
-
· Large bookstore with many items, all at discounted prices.
-
· Free time is planned between each session.
The cost last year was $100 per adult, room and board included (we
also made arrangements for commuters). Our target price this year is
$125.00, for people that come in on Thursday evening, and the
conference is another full day longer. We will work with anyone
regarding the price. We want the people that need this information to
be able to have it.
Please let us know if you have any interest in coming. You can also
help us by publicizing the conference wherever you can. Putting this
message on the church bulletin board, giving it to interested
parishioners and asking your pastor to announce it and encourage
people to come would be a good start!
You can read about last year's conference and this years conference
planning on our web page. Set your URL to

conference item.
God bless you!
