The Serbian Patriarch Belgrade Synod No. 983 With great consternation I wish to inform you that moments ago phoning me from Bosanska Gradiska was His Eminence Amphilochije, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Coastland, a member of the Holy Synod of Bishops, reporting that 3,000 Serbs, of which 800 are children, and 1,500 are soldiers, and including the priest Fr. Leontije Alavanja, are surrounded in Pakrac, Brusnik, Gavrinica and Omanovac. They are under cross-fire, and are not being permitted to exit the area. He also reported that frequent powerful explosions are being heard from that area and there is a real danger that they will all be killed. With the aim of saving their lives, I appeal to you to do whatever necessary to intervene that the worst may be avoided. Respectfully, The Serbian Patriarch (signature: + Pavle) (seal: Archbishop of Pech, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Serbian Patriarch)
