THE LETTER FROM THE PATRIARCH OF THE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH TO STUDENTS
I address you, the students of the Belgrade University, who have been expressing your feelings of truth, justice and democratic respect of the electoral will of the people in the past month, which is always a noble virtue of youth.
It is positive that you express your affection towards higher ideals in a peaceful, dignified manner, which is not always a characteristic of youth when it takes to the streets in order to express these ideals collectively.
The gravity of the situation in which our nation found itself during the civil war, is such that it pressured everyone and awoke your youth with the question of the meaning of life and suffering, and whether it is one thing to act human, and another to be inhuman.
The Serbian Orthodox Church greets and blesses this point of view as being evangelistic and human. It prays to God for His help, now and in the future which lies ahead of you, in your rising above all of that which is lower and of less importance, especially the inhumane, in the interest of justice and the salvation of the people, their freedom and reputation.
With the blessing of St. Sava, and all the saints of our line, fatherly greetings from
