STUDENTS MARCH AGAINApproximately
20,000 Belgrade university students walked through the
streets of Zvezdara municipality on Feb. 10. The students
passed through downtown Belgrade undisturbed by the
police. A member of the student protest organizing
committee, Cedomir Jovanovic, said before the protest
march that many ask a frivolous question of what will
happen after Tuesday (when the Serbian legislature should
approve the special law recognizing opposition victories
in the local elections). "Wednesday will come after
Tuesday, and the protests will continue. We have been
playing a political game for two and a half months, but
we have made the rules ourselves - no trade and no
concessions," said Jovanovic. Belgrade university
students demand Belgrade University President Dragutin
Velickovic's resignation and the reinstatement of the
local election results.
