'Nedeljni Telegraf' quotes sources close to the Yugoslav Army as saying that the Command of the Armoured Brigade in Belgrade wanted to take tanks onto the streets on the night of February 2 to protect citizens from police brutality. However, the intervention was abandoned after tough negotiations with the Army Supreme Command, according to the Belgrade weekly.
